In Mexico any hospital (private or state) by law will attend any emergency demand that may show at the emergency room; though the state services may not always be as good as you may desire; so I strongly advise to have a major medical insurance that covers your full expenses abroad including repatriation in case is necessary.
By having a good medical insurance from your country will be enough to assure the proper and high standard medical services you might need, though frequently this may function by you paying fist and then you will get a reimbursement from your insurance company.
The Red Cross works very fine if you need any medical assistance or to be transported to a hospital without any charge at all. If you need to call an ambulance call 911 and they will get paramedics to you, and if they valorate you need to be taken to a hospital, they can take you to any hospital you request.
Vaccines and Medicines
Check you are updated with your own vaccines program in your country and visit your doctor at least a month before your trip to get his final advices and have your own enough medicines and prescriptions.
In Mexico there is no obligatory vaccines officially required for foreigners coming into the country, though it is recommended to come at least with the following:
Measles: For infants 6 to 11 months
Chickenpox (varicella), Diphteria-Tetanus-Peretussis
Polio, Typhoid, Hepatitis A & B
In Mexico you can find most of your medication in the so called Farmacias, drugstores. Though as in many countries, drugs with certain substances are subject to be sold with a prescription only, so if you are currently under medication, don´t forget to bring your prescriptions in original and a copy.
Though I know is easier to get here medicines than at the US and I know many people who cross the border just to get them; as well as medical services.
